Skin care tips for middle-aged people

skin problemsMiddle-aged skin problems

Skin care for middle-aged skin requires a little detective work. At this age, skin problems are not always due to the aging process. Many problems are related to improper nutrition, heat and humidity, hormonal changes, stress, and other factors. All can lead to premature aging of the skin. In addition, middle-aged skin is vulnerable to skin disorders such as acne, hot flashes, and rashes.

Protecting middle-aged skin

Protecting your skin during middle age starts with proper hydration. You also need to keep the skin clean to avoid infections. You will need to “assist” the skin as it loses its ability to remain soft and supple. Stress management is also very important. It is important to follow the skin care recommendation of your Charlotte dermatologist, and that you report any noticeable changes.

Consider your diet

It is important that you eat foods that are rich in vitamin C, E, B6 and B12. Consult your dermatologist to find out if you need supplements which help stimulate collagen production in your skin. Age is undefeated, so you cannot expect to have the same skin fullness and resiliency that you used to enjoy during your teens and early adult years. However, with proper skin care treatment, a healthy diet, and proper hydration you will be able to rejuvenate your skin with fewer fine lines and wrinkles.

Age spots

Brown and black spots, known as age spots, are primarily caused by UV radiation. As we age, sunscreen and UV ray blocking becomes critical. Not only as we seek to prevent age spots, but also to reduce risk for skin cancer. It is important to wear a hat with a brim to protect the back of the neck and the ears. Wear UV Ray blocking clothing (most anything that you cannot see through), and use an SPF 30 or greater sunscreen. Apply the sunscreen often (every two hours). It is advisable to use a lip balm with sun block in it. It is also wise to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm.
