What is Mohs surgery?
There are five steps to a complete Mohs surgery.

- Step two: the Mohs surgeon will remove a layer of skin and divvy it up into sections. Each section will be dyed a different color and will be noted where on the body the section came from. A map of the skin will then be created.
- Step three: each section is observed under a microscope and scanned for cancer that may be remaining after the initial removal.
- Step four: the Mohs surgeon will mark the location of any extra cancer cells that have been found on the skin “map” and will remove more skin in that section only.
- Step five: this process will be repeated by the Mohs surgeon until all biopsies come up clean and cancer free.
