South Charlotte dermatologist discusses how to keep hands smooth

South Charlotte dermatologist wants you to keep your hands smooth and fresh

South Charlotte dermatologist- keeping hands smoothSouth Charlotte dermatologist understands that it is easy for hands to get rough and chapped. There are many activities that dry out the skin on the hands and make them wrinkled and raw. Washing the dishes, for example, is one such activity that can leave you with weathered-looking hands. The natural aging process can also change our hands from being smooth and fresh to being dry and coarse. Exposing our hands to too much sunlight can also affect the way our hands look and feel. If you are on a quest for younger looking and smoothing feeling hands, then follow this South Charlotte dermatologist guide.

Prevention is the best way to keep your hands silky smooth

South Charlotte dermatologist discusses tips on preventing your hands from becoming dry and chapped.

  • The first tip involves using water that is warm, and not too hot, when you are doing the dishes or washing your hands.
  • The type of soap you pick is also important. Buy a soup that is gentle and that has a moisturizer infused in it. Bar soaps are the worst type of soap to pick when you’re doing your shopping as they rid the skin on your hands of their natural oils.
  • Finally, keep a moisturizer by your sink. Put moisturizer on your hands every time you wash them.

What to do if you already have dry hands

South Charlotte dermatologist offers advice for those of us who already have hands that are cracked and coarse.

  • Before going to bed, apply a deep moisturizer to your hands. Glycerin or dimethicone should be listed in the ingredients of the moisturizer your choose. Also, be on the lookout for a cream instead of a lotion since they are viscous enough to last the whole night.
  • Next, keep a pair of gloves on you at all times. You can wear gloves when you are outdoors to protect the skin on your hands from the sun and the wind. Aside from outdoor use, you can also wear gloves when you’re doing chores around the house. Gloves can give your skin time to heal.
  • Finally, as mentioned before, creams work better than lotions. Therefore, if you’ve been regularly applying lotion to your hands, throw it away and buy a cream.
