- On the day of the surgery, the area to be treated will be thoroughly examined. You will be prepped for surgery, including administration of a local anesthetic. This is to numb the area that will be operated on, allowing you to be awake during the surgery.
- After the anesthetic has taken effect, the surgeon starts by cutting out the visible skin cancer.
- Then the surgeon removes a thin layer of surrounding skin. The affected area will be bandaged so that you can wait comfortably.
