Can Charlotte skin care help me to avoid frostbite?

Skincare tips to avoid frostbite

Skincare is most important this week as more than 120 million Americans will face low temperatures. When you must go out in temperatures that could be freezing, it is essential to protect your skin from cold-weather damage. Frostbite is the most prevalent issue when it comes to your skin and the cold. Frostbite occurs when the skin and/or the tissue beneath the skin is damaged due to extended exposure to freezing temperatures. Frostbite can result in severe, and often permanent damage. To stay warm and prevent frostbite, follow these tips:

Wear protective clothing

  1. Dress in several loose, comfortable layers
  2. Wearing loose, light layers helps to trap warm air
  3. The first layer should be synthetic material that wicks moisture away from your body.
  4. The next layer should be insulating wool or fleece
  5. The top layer should be windproof and waterproof
  6. Your outer layer should be a down parka and ski pants

Protect your feet and toes

  1. Wear two pairs of socks
  2. The pair next to your skin should be made of moisture-wicking fabric
  3. Wear a pair of wool or wool-blend socks on top of the first pair
  4. Your boots should also be lined with adequate insulation
  5. Boots should be waterproof and cover at least your ankles
  6. Make sure that nothing feels tight. Tight clothing or footwear increases the risk of frostbite.
  7. Wear insulated mittens or gloves to protect your hands from the cold.

Protect your head

  1. To protect your ears and head, wear a heavy wool or fleece hat
  2. Cover your face with a scarf or face mask
  3. The scarf or mask warms the air you breathe and helps prevent frostbite on your nose and face

Other important precautions:

  1. Make sure snow cannot get inside of your boots or clothing because wet clothing increases the risk of developing frostbite.
  2. Keep yourself hydrated.
  3. Avoid alcohol, as it increases your risk for frostbite.
