Here is a little Q and A with our new licensed aesthetician:
1. What lead you to a passion in skincare?
I have always been interested in skincare, specifically what ingredients go into products. To me, it is fascinating to learn about certain ingredients, acids, peptides, or retinol complexes and how these best treat different types of skin conditions. More importantly, however, I’ve always been driven by a passion to help others. I want people to feel good in their own skin and feel even better about themselves. To know that I can be a part in that is very special to me. The deeper I dove into my studies and at Aveda, the more passionate I became. I loved learning about different skincare brands and their ingredients. I even more so loved getting to be around people every day. I am beyond excited to start my next journey with Metrolina Dermatology.
2. What is your absolute favorite procedure/treatment to do and why?
This is a hard question because I don’t know if I can decide! I do love all types of skin procedures/treatments but if I had to chose it would be chemical peels. Most people get standoffish when they hear the word “chemical,” but they are nothing to be afraid of! I’ve had the joy of seeing so many amazing results with chemical peels, and they are fun for me to do! The idea of a peel is simple: the specific acids in the peel will “communicate” with your skin cells to start changing to better your skin. I always call my peels a “spring cleaning” because your skin is able to shed the layer of skin that it no longer needs to become healthier and brighter. Chemical peels are a great way to treat acne, fine and moderate lines and wrinkles, dyspigmentation, and refining pores and skin texture. They encourage the skin to boast collagen and elastin and correct overactive melanocytes. Isn’t that amazing?!
3. What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about cosmetic treatments?
Hands down that there is one product that can fix everything for you. We have all seen dramatic and drastic before and after pictures of someones hyperpigmention going completely away in a month, or someone with deep wrinkles having firmer skin all because they have been using a cream once a day for two weeks. I’ll be honest with you: it doesn’t work like that. Do you get your dream body after one week of working out? No! Working out is a commitment to not only staying in the gym for results but also eating healthy and taking care of yourself outside of the gym. Your skin is the same way. Skincare is an investment and dedication; one cream or lotion cannot give you all your skincare goals. This is also why I love medical grade products because the amount of research that is behind them is what gives the products their credibility. The quality of ingredients you get for your skin is higher because there is a dedication to create top of the line products that will help you in achieving your goals over time. Using medical grade skincare products along with in office treatments for correcting skin concerns and maintaining your skin is what can its really all about.
4. What does your skincare routine look like?
I always love trying out new products. However, no matter what I am trying out, I always keep my routine to the same layout: cleansing, toning, corrective serums, moisturizer, SPF, eye cream, and finally a night cream. There is power in the steps, and importance in doing that twice a day!
5. Tell us some fun facts about you?
I love hanging out around Charlotte with my family and my sweet dog Tucker! Being originally from the Hickory area, Charlotte was a big but wonderful change for me, and my family always wants to come visit! We are a very dog friendly family so anywhere that is fur baby friendly, they tag along, So yes, if you have any dogs and want to talk about them with me or show me pictures I will be all eyes and ears! I enjoy spending my Sundays at church with my Freedom House Church family. I always leave there filled with so much joy and ready to tackle the rest of my week. I love being in the outdoors and my favorite place to be is either Black Mountain or anywhere that has a beach – lakes included! I love anything that furthers my walk in life and allows me to become a better person. Life is beautiful and if you keep a positive outlook everyday then you will think the same thing!
I am so excited to be joining the Metrolina Dermatology family and meeting all of you!
