Chemical Peels

A chemical solution that exfoliates dead skin cells and improves your skin’s texture.

What is it?

Chemical peels offer powerful skin rejuvenation by exfoliating the damaged outer layer, revealing fresher, firmer, and smoother skin underneath. Most commonly used on the face, neck and chest, they effectively reduce fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes, age spots, and uneven pigmentation. Beyond cosmetic benefits, chemical peels also serve therapeutic purposes, helping to treat conditions like melasma (skin discoloration) and precancerous lesions such as actinic keratoses.

We offer a range of tailored peels, including Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Jessner’s, TCA, and combination peels, all selected to suit your unique skin type and goals. For more advanced rejuvenation, we also provide The Perfect Derma Peel, a powerful medical-grade peel featuring TCA, Kojic Acid, Retinoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Phenol, Vitamin C, and Glutathione—an antioxidant that enhances skin clarity and radiance. Visible results appear in just one week.

Note: Chemical peels are available in our Park Road location.

What to expect

Chemical peels begin with a thorough cleansing, followed by the application of a chemical solution, such as glycolic or salicylic acid, to remove dead skin cells and stimulate renewal. You may feel warmth, tingling, or a slight sting for a few minutes. We offer a small handheld fan to ease discomfort. After a few minutes, a neutralizing solution is applied to stop the peel. Post-treatment, your skin may appear red, tight, or swollen for a few days. To promote healing, our providers will recommend a gentle cleanser, a rich moisturizer, and SPF 30+ sunscreen.

In addtion, your provider may recommend an ointment or ibuprofen for swelling and tenderness. Avoid sun exposure until your skin fully heals.

For optimal results, a series of chemical peels is typically recommended, spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. Recovery time varies based on the peel's strength, ranging from minimal redness and peeling for 2–3 days to more intense swelling, redness, and peeling lasting up to 7–10 days.

CHEMICAL PEELS CAN HELP WITH THESE CONDITIONS:

Patients may experience mild discomfort during treatment as a warm and tingling sensation that typically subsides after the procedure. Redness and peeling is expected to occur around the third day following your peel. If you have a history of cold sores or a history of keloid scars, please alert your provider before the procedure.

With our medical grade chemical peels, the team at Metrolina Dermatology has a variety of ingredients at our disposal that we customize based on your specific skin. Whether it’s your first peel, or one of many, your desired outcome and current skin condition will be evaluated by our medical professionals before each and every peel.

Yes! Chemical peels have been used for years. Metrolina Dermatology is a highly-trained, physician-led practice and we pay close attention to both skin type and area of concern prior to performing the treatment.
