Slow Mohs is
a modified form of Mohs Micrographic Surgery. Like conventional Mohs, it is a
staged, margin-controlled excision.
However, in contrast to conventional Mohs sections,
which are processed via frozen sectioning and read by the Mohs surgeon while
the patient waits in our office, Slow Mohs are read by an off-site pathologist
and processed overnight.
What to expect
It takes a
few days to receive the pathology results from this outside lab. During that
time, the patient will go home with a bandage covering the excision site.
When the results are received and all margins
are found to be clear of tumor, surgical repair will take place a few days
later. Dr. Haberle, Metrolina Dermatology’s fellowship trained Mohs surgeon and
board-certified dermatologist, will provide a full treatment plan on how to manage
and monitor the melanoma.
