Biologics and Topical Medications

Biologics are highly targeted medicines that contain molecules from living organisms. Topicals include medicated and non-medicated creams, ointments or gels applied to the skin.

What is it?

Topical medications are applied directly to the skin to treat or prevent skin issues such as acne, rosacea, psoriasis, and eczema. They may come in the form of creams, ointments, lotions, but are not limited to these formats.

Biologics are a class of medications that leverage living organisms to treat specific cells in the body. Common conditions such as psoriasis and eczema may be treated with biologics. Biologics are typically administered though injection.

What to expect

Your Metrolina board-certified dermatologist may prescribe a biologic or topical medication to treat the signs and symptoms of your condition or disease.
