The pulsed dye laser (PDL) is a safe and effective treatment that uses concentrated bursts of light to reduce unwanted veins, visible redness and vascular lesions on the face.
Pulsed dye laser treatments are especially effective for treating:
Rosacea
Red birthmarks
Broken blood vessels
Other red spots or vascular lesions
While these conditions are typically harmless, they can be unsightly or uncomfortable. Pulsed dye laser treatments can significantly reduce the appearance of redness and visible veins, resulting in more even-toned skin.
It’s important to note that while treatment can improve existing veins, it does not prevent new ones from forming, as they are a natural part of the aging process.
If you’re looking for a non-invasive way to improve the appearance of redness and visible veins, pulsed dye laser treatment may be the solution.
Pulsed dye laser is offered in our Metrolina Dermatology Park Road location.
What to expect
During a pulsed dye laser (PDL) treatment, your provider will review your procedure plan, take photographs, and prep the skin. You will be given eye protection to wear prior to the procedure. The treatment may take anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes, depending on the area being treated. During the procedure, you may feel a slight stinging sensation that quickly subsides after each laser pulse. The laser also emits a cooling mist that sprays onto the skin with every pulse. Cool packs can be placed on the skin after treatment to minimize discomfort.
Treatment is typically quick and well-tolerated. After the procedure, you may notice some redness and mild swelling in the treated area—this is normal and usually resolves within a few days.
There is little to no downtime, making pulsed dye laser treatments a convenient option for addressing redness, broken capillaries, and other vascular concerns. Our experienced providers recommend a series of treatments for optimal results.
