Genital Warts

A form of a sexually transmitted infection (STI) triggered by specific variants of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

What is it?

Genital warts are a sexually transmitted infection caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Genital warts may manifest as tiny, flesh-colored bumps in the genital region.

While common in both men and women, genital warts are often benign and are generally harmless. If left untreated, genital warts may cause individual discomfort or pain, and—in certain instances—can contribute to complications during pregnancy.

How is it treated?

Due to its nature as a virus, signs and symptoms may be treated but there is currently no cure for genital warts.

For the treatment of genital warts, your board-certified dermatologist may recommend a topical medication to boost immunity against flare-ups, or to stop existing warts from growing. Additional treatments may include cryotherapy, laser treatments or minor surgical interventions to remove visible warts. Our treatment options aim to control patients' discomfort and inhibit further transmission.

Our dedicated team of board-certified dermatologists in Charlotte, North Carolina, will treat you confidentially and effectively and can provide you with the relief you desire and need.
